Boris Johnson issued a savage slapdown to Sir Keir Starmer’s grilling on the UK Government’s approach to education, claiming the Labour Party wanted to get rid of Ofsted. Following the dig, Sir Lindsay Hoyle issued a warning to the Prime Minister regarding focusing on policies from the previous general election. However, Boris told the Speaker of the House of Commons that he was entitled to draw attention to the issue.
Sir Lindsay said: “Just a moment, let’s have a little less shouting.
“Just to remind the Prime Minister, it is Prime Minister’s Questions, it is not about the agenda of the last general election.”
Mr Johnson replied: “With great respect Mr Speaker, I do think I am entitled to draw attention to what the Labour Party stood on during the last general election.
“They did want to get rid of Ofsted.
“I will say that if he [Sir Keir] is now saying he supports our tutoring programme then that is a good thing.
“What the Government is doing is coming in on the side of all the other kids who do not get access.
“6 million children will have access to tuition thanks to this programme.
“It is a fantastic thing, a revolution in education for this country.”
