Hughesy's grovelling apology to Tomic's girlfriend Vanessa Sierra amid 'split'

Dave Hughes has drawn a line under his feud with Vanessa Sierra, after he angered the model by ‘confirming’ her split with tennis star Bernard Tomic earlier this week.

The comedian, 50, had announced the pair’s break-up on 2Day FM on Monday after chatting to Sierra via Instagram DMs – only for her to accuse him hours later of spreading ‘fake news’ and using quotes without her permission.

While he didn’t fully retract his claims, Hughes acknowledged on Tuesday he’d gone too far by saying the couple were no longer together – noting how the Love Island star had told him their conversation was ‘off the record’.

Whether or not Tomic and Sierra are still together remains unclear.

‘I never said that they’d broken up,’ Hughes said on The Morning Crew on Tuesday.

‘I said that she had sent me some DMs. I didn’t say what she said in the DMs.’

He continued: ‘I definitely shouldn’t have said ‘it’s fair to say they have broken up. I shouldn’t have said that… and I apologise to you now, Vanessa.

‘I hope that we can build a bridge… so that we can be friends again.’

The saga began on Monday when Hughes claimed on air that Sierra had confirmed to him ‘off the record’ that she’d split from the former world No. 17.

The OnlyFans model, who is currently in Croatia, had asked for parts of their Instagram conversation to remain ‘off the record’.

Hughes agreed and didn’t share the specific details of their chat, but he did tell listeners ‘it’s fair to say they have broken up’ – referring to Sierra and Tomic.

‘As soon as she said “off the record” I did not say what she told me, and I won’t tell you either. I’m a great guy,’ he clarified.

Vanessa later denied confirming the split, posting on Instagram Stories: ‘For anyone who listened to Hughesy on the radio I never confirmed a break-up.’

‘My initial response saying “I don’t talk to media” does not count as a reply to his DM. Clearly off the record means nothing these days,’ she added, using the hashtag #fakenews.

It comes after Vanessa shared an image of herself posing in a bikini to Instagram on Saturday, adding a cryptic caption that hinted she and Tomic, 28, had parted ways. 

It read: ‘Fool me twice’ and was flanked with a broken-heart emoji.
