A Question Time audience member slammed the Tory party in Westminster for their “condescending attitude” towards Scottish independence. Joining host Fiona Bruce on the panel were Scottish Conservatives’ leader, Douglas Ross MP MSP; John Swinney MSP, Scotland’s deputy first minister; Anas Sarwar MSP, leader of Scottish Labour; Isabel Hardman, assistant editor of The Spectator magazine; and the lead singer and songwriter of the band Belle and Sebastian, Stuart Murdoch.
The woman in the audience argued that the SNP consistently being voted into power should be enough of a mandate for a second independence referendum.
She said: “I find it hugely condescending that this whole ‘once in a generation’ thing still comes up.
“So much has changed and there will never be a perfect time for a referendum, but come on!
“If this isn’t it, I really don’t know when is.
“I find it incredible that we can constantly re-elect an SNP Government and yet Westminster turn round and say there’s no mandate for it.
“It’s just hugely condescending and completely arrogant, you’re just turning your back on the Scottish people and the Scottish nation.”
She also blasted Prime Minister Liz Truss for “ignoring” Nicola Sturgeon, saying: “She’s an elected politician, [Liz Truss] hasn’t even been elected by anyone.”

“But on a democratic route that’s put forward by nationalists, people who want to separate the country put that forward.
“You wouldn’t expect a unionist to explain how we could divide from the rest of the UK.
“We’ve had that debate, we’ve had that discussion.”
The Supreme Court is currently debating whether or not the Scottish Parliament has the power to authorise another referendum.
