Kaiser was slashed on the top of the head and below the eye after he apprehended a man in south London. Kaiser and his handler PC Mark Woolcott were called to a report of an intruder in the back garden of a house on Luxted Road, Orpington. Finding the man, Kaiser managed to restrain him on the ground despite being viciously attacked.
The dog was later rushed to the vets where he required heavy stitching across his face.
Thankfully, the knife struck bone and managed to avoid leaving serious injuries.
Superintendent Emma Richards, from the Met’s Taskforce, which includes the Dog Support Unit, said: “I want to pay tribute to Kaiser and PC Woolcott for the immense bravery they showed in tackling this armed man.
“Kaiser was stabbed multiple times in the head and is lucky to be alive.
“My thoughts are also with the officer who sustained a broken wrist.
“I wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on duty as soon as he is able.
“We should recognise that the man responsible for this attack was suffering from a mental health crisis.
“He is getting the care he needs now and a decision will be taken in due course as to whether it would be appropriate for any criminal charges to follow.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel also voiced her concern over the incident and praised the pair for their bravery.
She said this evening: “Once again, our police officers and service animals have shown immense bravery in the face of danger.
“Wishing Police Dog Kaiser and the injured officer a speedy recovery.”
The incident comes after a series of stabbing across the capital during the Bank Holiday weekend.
One man, Tony Eastlake, 55, died from a knife wound after being attacked in Islington.
An 18-year-old boy was also stabbed to death in north London on May 31.
