Earlier today MP Sir David Amess was stabbed in major incident while meeting members of his constituency in Leigh-on-Sea. Constituents waiting to see him and staff were among those who witnessed the incident and quickly called police who rushed to the scene.
The MP who represents Southend West in Essex, was attacked at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, where a knifeman is understood to have walked into the church in the before carrying out the vicious assault.
The area surrounding the church, which is located on Eastwood Road North in Leigh-on-sea, has been closed while police respond to the attack.
Areas between Bellhouse Lane and Oakwood Avenue are closed off.
Olivia, an employee at Jeans Laundrette located on the same road as the church, told Express.co.uk: “I’m trapped in at the minute. The road is on lockdown and my car is where the police are so I can’t get through.”
One person posted online: “David Amess Southend MP stabbed in Belfairs Methodist church Eastwood road literally as I was outside the building.”
While another posted: “Something big going on outside Belfairs Methodist Church on Eastwood Road North near the Woodcutters.”
