Hey Hey It's Saturday legend passes away at age 71 – after five decades working for Nine 

Television legend Phil Lambert has died. 

Lambert, who is best remembered as Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s floor manager ‘Lucky Phil’, passed away over the weekend at the age of 71, his family has confirmed. 

No cause of death has been revealed.

Lambert worked at Channel Nine’s GTV Melbourne studios for five decades, and was the station’s longest-serving employee before his retirement in 2019. 

He worked behind the scenes on many programs at Nine, primarily within the camera and staging departments.

The beloved star rose to fame in the 1970s an ‘accidental’ star on Hey Hey It’s Saturday – a sketch show which was known for breaking the fourth wall with improvisational-style comedy.

Lambert joined the show as a floor manager, but ended up becoming part of the de facto cast after being featured in regular on-screen segments. 

His stage name ‘Lucky Phil’ was inspired by a Victorian drink-driving campaign at the time.  

Lambert rubbed shoulders with some of Australia’s big names in television during his tenure at Nine, including Hey Hey It’s Saturday host Daryl Somers, Eddie McGuire, Peter Hitchener and Bert Newton.

Among the productions he worked on in the camera department include The Footy Show, Channel Nine Cricket, Hole In The Wall and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. 

He also served as camera operator at multiple Logie Award ceremonies.  

Lambert’s death comes after the news of fellow television legend Dieter Brummer’s passing over the weekend. 

The Home And Away star died aged 45 and is not being treated as suspicious.
