The England skipper fired the national side into their first European Championship final by slamming in the rebound to his saved penalty in extra-time last night. Gareth Southgate’s side came from behind to win 2-1 in front of 60,000 fans, despite a heroic attempt from Denmark to spoil the party – most notably from keeper Kasper Schmeichel. The Three Lions will return to Wembley on Sunday for a monumental final against Italy.

Kane will go head-to-head with Italy’s veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini, who has enjoyed a remarkable tournament so far – but the pair have conflicting views on more than just football.

When pressed about whether he was concerned about the UK leaving the EU in 2016, Kane admitted: “No. I don’t know enough about it to be concerned about it.”

He added: “A few of the lads have been talking about it, but I don’t think they are that focused on it.

“The Euros [2016] are the main thing, trying to progress and do well in that.

“I don’t think any of us know enough about it to comment on it.”

And he was mocked online for it.

The video was shared on Twitter with the apparent sarcastic title: “Political Scientist Harry Kane gives his thought-provoking views on Brexit.”

A reply read: “Glad I understand his opinion.”

Another added: “Speaks volumes about the intelligence of our players.”

If England beat Italy on Sunday, it will be their first major tournament victory since winning the World Cup in 1966.

But Southgate knows it will not be an easy task.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, he said: “We’ve got to enjoy the fact we’re in the final but there’s one more massive hurdle to conquer.

“We know the size of the task, we know they have those two warriors at the back who have seen all this before.

“But what a brilliant moment for us. Let’s savour tonight then we can think about that on the coach back.”

Skipper Kane added: “We got there when it mattered. We reacted really well and we’re in a final at home. What a feeling.

“We know it’s going to be a very tough game against Italy. We’ve had a great tournament so far. One more game to go at home.”

The final will be shown on both the BBC and ITV on Sunday, July 11, at 8pm.
