Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been nominated for an Emmy Award for the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. The interview earned them a nod for ‘Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series’ ahead of the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. However, royal author Robert Jobson rebuked the nomination, calling it a “shame”.
He added: “I think it is a shame when you have the Archbishop of Canterbury fact-checking one of the points, saying that he didn’t marry them before the wedding.
“And there were other things. I think Oprah really let herself down.
“She shouldn’t have just accepted the statements but asked questions because some of those answers were flaky at best.”
Other alleged inaccuracies from the interview include Meghan’s claim that the Royal Family refused to give Archie a title.
However, it is understood that their child Archie would have only become a prince when Prince Charles, Harry’s father, becomes king on the death of the Queen.
Piers Morgan has previously taken issue with Meghan’s claim in the Oprah interview that she was “silenced” during her time in the Royal Family.
Another royal commentator and author Duncan Larcombe suggested that William will feel “sick to the pit of his stomach” over the nomination.
He told OK! Magazine: “The interview was an attack on his family and his wife and is now being heralded as one of the entertainment moments of the year.
“It means that as awards gain momentum, once again Harry and Meghan’s attack on the institution will be repeated over and over again.”
The interview will compete against Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently welcomed their second child Lilibet Diana on 4 June.
