Dumbarton FC took to Twitter to poke fun at claims the Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned down the Scottish title for their son. They shared a hilarious meme of five figures dressed as clowns and dunces with “we will not be dumb” written on a blackboard behind them.
The football club joked in the caption: “No offence taken @RoyalFamily.”
Dumbarton FC’s tweet comes after reports Harry and Meghan rejected the title over fears Archie would be bullied.
A source told the Telegraph: “They didn’t like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word ‘dumb’. They were worried about how that might look.”
Another insider added: “It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry.”
The reports also prompted a reaction from Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie.
Ms Baillie told the Daily Record: “I am very proud to be the MSP for Dumbarton.
“It is my home.
“Dumbarton is a wonderful place and the people of Dumbarton have always prided ourselves on being open and accepting.

Royal expert Phil Dampier tweeted: “You couldn’t make it up!”
GB News presenter Andrew Neil wrote on Twitter: “Surely this can’t be true.
“And if it is, should they not be grateful. It could have been Lord Scunthorpe.”
Harry and Meghan quit royal duties last year for a new life in America.
They are now living in California with Archie and their newborn daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana.
Harry is returning to the UK for only the second time since Megxit for the unveiling of a Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace.
The Duke was spotted arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday evening for his flight to Britain.
