GB News presenter Simon McCoy has reacted furiously to reports that British soldiers are being deployed on foreign missions without full vaccination against coronavirus. UK troops are believed to have been sent to Africa without having a second dose of the vaccine to combat the virus. McCoy discussed the issue with Evening Standard Defence Editor Robert Fox who described British troops “going out on 6-month deployment no second jab at all.”
Mr McCoy replied: “To say this is a shoddy treatment of our men and women is an understatement.
“I mean have you ever come across anything like this?”
“I haven’t,” replied Mr Fox.
The Defense Editor remarked on the British Army’s role in the UK vaccination rollout, adding: “There are particular things that military, not necessarily medics but military logisticians can bring in to help you take shortcuts and get into the planning.”
“And this is how we treat them?” blasted the host.
The Ministry of Defence has said personnel deployed as part of peacekeeping operations in Mali were required to quarantine before travelling to the country.
An MoD spokesperson said: “Personnel deploying to Mali were required to quarantine before and after their flights, having taken a minimum of two COVID-19 tests.
“This exceeds the Government of Mali’s COVID-19 travel requirements and is in accordance with UN policy.
“Beyond a very small number of cases, these protocols have been successful in containing the spread of infections in Mali and none of the local population have been affected.”
