Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand clashed over how the England squad might be feeling ahead of their Euro 2020 final against Italy at Wembley Stadium.
The Three Lions face their first major tournament final since the 1966 World Cup victory over West Germany and a maiden European Championship showdown.
Gareth Southgate’s side have had a fantastic run to the final, beating Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine and Denmark.
Harry Kane’s winning goal against Denmark has set up a clash with Italy, who won the Euros for the only time two years after England’s solitary major final.
The striker coolly converted the rebound after his controversially awarded penalty was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.
“I sense a tense, possibly long evening lies ahead,” Lineker said during the coverage.
But former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who has maintained a consistently positive opinion of the England team throughout the tournament, hit back at the former stirker.
“I can’t disagree with you more. I feel so comfortable,” Ferdinand said.
“It’s what these guys have been able to make me feel like. It’s been the best sleep I’ve had in about two years.
“That’s how confident and comfortable I am but I think it’s testament to them.
“I think these guys know this is an opportunity to make history. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. The most important thing is to win it but two, please enjoy it, please enjoy it.
“These boys have got the chance to change history for this country and this tournament.”
