Deyan Dimitrov, cleaning expert and CEO of Laundryheap, has shared the “best solutions” involving “common household products” which will get your bathrooms “sparkling” in no time. The expert also shared how maintaining a bathroom will help to save money on expensive replacements.
1. Soak your shower head rather than replace it
The expert explained: “You should aim to clean your shower head at least once a month, in order to prevent the build-up of mineral deposits that can affect its water pressure levels and reduce its efficiency.
“Rather than splurging on a new shower head, a simple solution of white vinegar and baking soda can effectively unclog its nozzles.”
If possible, remove the shower head and soak it in a container filled with 750ml white vinegar and 250ml baking soda.
The head can be kept submerged in this homemade solution for anywhere between one and eight hours, depending on how dirty it is.

To eliminate these marks, households can use a homemade cleaning solution for under £10.
The cleaning expert explained: “Firstly, use rubbing alcohol on a cotton wool pad to soften any hardened spots of hair products and lotions on your tiling.
“Then, mixing 100ml white vinegar, 100ml rubbing alcohol and a teaspoon of cornstarch will create a powerful cleaning solution to target those grimy areas.
“Spray it on your chosen surfaces, give it a scrub with a microfibre cloth and any persistent spots and streaks will disappear, leaving your tiles looking brand new.”

3. How to unblock drains
Shower drains are hotspots for collecting soap, hair and dirt after using it. If left untreated, serious build-up may occur which may need the help of a plumber to unblock.
To prevent this from happening, the expert has shared the two “best” and “cheapest” products to solve the issue.
Deyan said: “This time, pour 250ml baking soda down the drain first, and immediately follow with 250ml white vinegar.
“Leave the drain for a few hours, and then run the shower for a few minutes to determine whether all the blockage has been dislodged (you can lift out your drainage plug to check this).
“Repeat, if necessary, until water is able to drain easily through the plughole, and your drainage system will be back to working at its best.”
4. How to clean grout
The expert noted: “Dirty grout is one of a homeowner’s worst nightmares to clean, as it can be really tricky to access the grime stuck between your tiles.
“A handy trick that can help you get in and amongst your tiling’s small gaps, rather than spending excessive amounts of money on regrouting your tiles, is to dip an old toothbrush in bleach and scrub away at any marks and mould that are attached to the filling.”
Deyan said it may take a lot of manpower to remove the grime in the grout but the toothbrush should help to target small lumps which a cloth would otherwise miss.
