Everton’s search for a manager has been going on for almost a month after Carlo Ancelotti took up a surprise opportunity to return to Real Madrid at the start of June.

The Italian’s departure has left the squad unsettled, with James Rodriguez the most high-profile player who seems destined to be playing elsewhere next season.

Benitez may have to cope without the flair of the Colombian who, according to reports, has recently turned his attention from Real Madrid to Atletico in search of a move.

Other managerial targets have come and gone for the Toffees, with the likes of Lucien Favre opting for additional time out of the game instead.
