The Tesla CEO made an appearance at the Code Conference in Beverly Hills, California where he spoke on a range of topics, including Mr Biden. He claimed the White House was “biased” against Tesla and said it appears to be “controlled” by unions. It came after Mr Biden held an event in August to celebrate ambitious electric vehicles goals, but did not invite the world’s largest maker of EVs – Tesla.
Kara Swisher, who hosted the chat, asked Mr Musk to explain recent tweets in which he slammed Mr Biden for “still sleeping” after failing to congratulate the first all -civilian SpaceX flight.
Mr Musk said: “You know, Biden held this EV summit — didn’t invite Tesla.
“Invited GM (General Motors), Ford, Chrysler and the United Auto Workers union (UAW).
“An EV summit at the White House! Didn’t mention Tesla once, and praised GM and Ford for leading the EV revolution.”
“Does this sound maybe a little biased or something? And you know, just — it’s not the friendliest administration. Seems to be controlled by unions, as far as I can tell.”
One reason for the snub is said to be due to the UAW’s precedes.
The union represents workers at GM, Ford and Stellantis, but has been battling, so far unsuccessfully, to organise Tesla workers at the EV maker’s plant in Fremont, California.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about Tesla’s absence at her briefing Thursday ahead of the event.

The three automakers issued a joint statement announcing their “shared aspiration” for plug-in vehicles to comprise 40 percent to 50 percent of their sales by 2030.
But that total would include plug-in hybrids that also have gasoline-powered engines.
The Biden administration’s previous statements about promoting greater use of EVs pointed to their importance in creating “good-paying, union jobs”.
