Drivers may have 'medical conditions minimised' when applying for driving licence renewals

    This was partly due to medical teams continued focus on the pandemic and vaccination programmes in their local areas.

    The DVLA said they take their commitment to safe driving seriously and have worked with the BMA through the pandemic.

    A spokesperson said: “We welcome the decision by the BMA and Royal College of GPs to review DVLA medicals after they were temporarily de-prioritised during the pandemic.

    “By law, all drivers must meet medical standards for fitness at all times, and there are additional checks for bus and lorry drivers.
