Police and fire services are responding to an ongoing incident outside Liverpool’s Women’s Hospital following reports of an explosion and images of a car on fire. A worrying video has been filmed which shows thick black smoke rising near the entrance to the hospital along with the sound of a number of blasts. Merseyside police have announced in a statement that a cordon is in force around the hospital but have not provided further details on the incident.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at around 11am today (Sunday, 14 November) outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
“A cordon around the affected area has been established and a number of surrounding roads have been closed.
The Liverpool Echo report that that bomb squad were called to the scene at around 11am on Sunday.
A Royal Logistic Corps army vehicle is at the scene alongside Merseyside Fire and Rescue.
