The singer-songwriter appeared on Monday’s BBC Breakfast to discuss his ongoing career, which has spanned five decades. The 74-year-old now lives in Australia, and when Jon Kay asked if he’d ever move back to the UK, he confessed he probably wouldn’t but remarked “England is doing great,” which struck viewers as bizarre and led to some questioning “Did he just say that?”
With a cost of living crisis, hiking energy bills and a government U-turn to the mini budget announced on Monday morning, Leo’s statement surprised those tuned into BBC.
“What’s life like there for you? In Australia?” Sally asked the popular singer.
“Great!” Leo replied. “Space! I mean, I miss the old country and it’s great to be back you know, it’s lovely to be here.
“And I like my life down there, it’s quiet, it’s sleepy. I live in a village of 400 people.
