The reality star said that during the procedure, nurses decided to perform a loop excision, which involves removing the abnormal cells using a thin wire loop that is heated with an electric current.
Usually the procedure is done while the patient is awake, with local anaesthetic injected into the cervix to numb it.
Danielle said that the abnormal cells were removed due to being ‘precancerous’ and it prevents them from progressing into cancer in the future.

Get checked out! Danielle explained that she went to her routine smear test last month where her results showed abnormal cells and she was referred for a colposcopy, which is a simple procedure that looks at the cervix
‘My results showed some abnormal cells and I was referred to have a Colposcopy (this is a simple procedure to look at the cervix for the abnormal cells to see if they could be cancerous or not).
‘Yesterday when having the procedure the nurses decided to do something called a “Loop Excision” which is basically using a electrical current to cut away the abnormal cells.
‘The reason for cutting away the cells was due to the abnormal cells being “Pre Cancerous Cells” and removing them now can prevent them progressing to cancer in the future.

A smear test detects abnormal cells on the cervix, which is the entrance to the uterus from the vagina. Removing these cells can prevent cervical cancer.
Most test results come back clear, however, one in 20 women show abnormal changes to the cells of their cervix. In some cases, these need to be removed or can become cancerous.
In the UK, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme invites women aged 25-to-49 for a smear every three years, those aged 50 to 64 every five years, and women over 65 if they have not been screened since 50 or have previously had abnormal results.
