A fundraiser was set up by a concerned football fan after a nine-year-old German girl was trolled after she was seen uncontrollably crying during Germany’s Euro 2020 last-16 clash against England.

The heartbreaking footage shows the girl at Wembley in floods of tears and clutching onto a relative as Germany lost 2-0.

When the footage appeared on TV, some England fans reportedly cheered at her tears and some even trolled the little girl on social media.

Former footballer Stan Collymore shared a selection of disgusting comments aimed at the girl referencing her nationality and Germany’s Nazi past.

Mr Hughes also thanked the supporters of the campaign and the thousands who donated.

He praised the family’s “grace, courage and generosity” and said that “the legacy of the support from thousands of donors is that thousands of children from around the world will benefit through UNICEF’s work.”
