A new study published Monday found that people vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine will be protected for years to come from the deadly virus and won’t need boosters so long as the virus does not mutate and evolve further than it has. However, as seen in the past year with many new variants surfacing, the future of the virus is uncertain.
The study found that people who had the coronavirus and then got the vaccine will have an immunity that would last years and even a lifetime.
Dr Ali Ellebedy is the immunologist at Washington University in St. Louis who led the study.
“It’s a good sign for how durable our immunity is from this vaccine,” he told The New York Times.
This new research does not include the Johnson&Johnson and the AstraZeneca vaccine, which both are similar in their structure – both are viral vector vaccines.

Though the study focussed on people with the Pfizer vaccine, Dr Ellebedy has said that the findings can be applied to Moderna as well, as they both are mNRA vaccines.
Out of the 14 participants, over half had previously had the coronavirus.
Dr Ellebedy took samples from the lymph nodes five times to examine the vaccines efficiency – they took samples at three weeks, four weeks, seven weeks and 15 weeks after the first dose of the vaccine.
The results showed that even after four months the vaccine was still active and had not faded in efficiency.
The study did not examine the effects the vaccine has in the battle against the Delta variant which is now plaguing the UK and Europe.
