Covid test farce: UK runs out of lateral flow kits as Britons told 'try again tomorrow'

As of midnight, laws in England requiring masks to be worn in shops and other indoor settings have ended. The capacity limits in bars and restaurants, as well as the number of people who can socialise together, have also been scrapped.

Clubs up and down the country also reopened and revellers danced through the night.

But Britons attempting to order free supplies of the at-home kits through the Government website were told they had to “come back tomorrow” as no more tests could be ordered.

A message on the Government website read: “Sorry no more tests can be ordered today.

“No more rapid lateral flow tests can be ordered online or through the call centre today.

“Please try again tomorrow when more tests will be available.”

Across the UK, all adults are entitled to pick up two free testing kits a week and can be collected from pharmacies or ordered online.

These are intended to be used by people who do not show symptoms of coronavirus in order to test whether they have one in five cases that are asymptomatic.

This came days after a Government’s top health official told MPs the free asymptomatic Covid testing would be scrapped by the end of August.

This means Britons could be forced to pay for their own testing kits.

    More to follow…
