On Friday the UK reported 42,076 new COVID-19 cases – a rise on Thursday’s 38,154.
The UK also recorded 121 deaths within 28 days of a positive test – down from 178 the previous day, according to government data.
It is the biggest jump in cases since July 21, when 44,104 cases were recorded.
