Remain campaign group, Best for Britain, has confirmed plans to project the names of EU supporters onto famous landmarks in Brussels on June 23. Organisers have called on people who “miss Europe” to put their names forward to create a “message of hope”.
Best for Britain chief executive, Naomi Smith, issued an appeal on Twitter along with a sign-up link.
She wrote: “We are projecting the names of everyone who misses Europe on to a landmark in Brussels on 23 June (5 years on from referendum) with a message of love and hope.
“You can add yours here.”
The post has triggered a backlash from a section of users on the social media platform.
Some called on the Remainers, turned Rejoiners, to finally accept the result of the 2016 EU referendum.
While others pointed out the UK had left a political and economic union – and not the whole of Europe.
Responding to the Tweet, one user wrote: “Oh….this is comedy gold”.
A second added: “Europe isn’t the EU, and the EU isn’t Europe. The sooner you get to understand this, the sooner you will understand the reasons behind Brexit.
“I won’t hold my breath! #FiveGlouriousYears”.
A third commented: “Some of us lived for 45yrs under an undemocratic regressive EU that we didn’t vote for. We didn’t whine like this lot, we got on with our lives!”
A fourth said: “It is very sad that a minority of people are still unable to accept that we have left the EU.”
Meanwhile, a fifth added: “I have great news for you. We are still in Europe!”

“We are going to project the names of those citizens who voted to stay, or who regretted voting leave, or anyone else who wants to sign our message, onto buildings at the heart of Europe.”
During the historic 2016 EU referendum 17.4 million people voted to leave the EU.
The UK sealed a Brexit withdrawal agreement with the bloc in January 2020, but was forced to stay tied to the EU during the 11-month transition period.
A landmark free trade deal was finalised on December 24 and the UK was finally freed from the shackles of Brussels at 11pm on December 31, 2020.
The Brexit stunt organised by Best for Britain is due to take place in the Belgian capital between 10pm and 11pm on June 23.
