Kate sent out a handcrafted postcard featuring a sketch of St Andrews to the people, communities and organisations the royal couple met on their week-long visit north of the border. The 39-year-old made the colourful drawing of West Sands beach in 2002.
The back of the postcard read: “To the people, communities and organisations we visited and heard from; and those who stopped to wave and make our return to Scotland so special – thank you! William and Catherine.”
The card was shared on the couple’s official Instagram account and royal watchers were very impressed with Kate’s artistic skills.
One wrote: “The Duchess can draw!!! She’s amazing! Is there a thing she can’t do?”
A second added: “Photography AND sketching talent?! Remarkable.”
Scotland and especially St Andrews University holds a special place in the heart of both Kate and William as it is where they first met in the early 2000s.
Kate studied history of art at St Andrews and graduated in 2005 with an MA, graded at a 2:1.
Prince William, who started on the same course as Kate in 2001 before switching, received a 2:1 in Geography.
The couple completed their tour of Scotland in Edinburgh on Thursday and the Duke of Cambridge delivered a heartfelt farewell speech.
The Duchess said: “Yesterday I received my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at London’s Science Museum.
“I’m hugely grateful to everyone who is playing a part in the rollout – thank you for everything you are doing.”
Responding to the Kensington Palace tweet, Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was also jabbed at the Science Museum, said: “In the last fortnight more than half of all people in their 30s have been vaccinated.
“Delighted HRH The Duchess of Cambridge was able to get her jab at the Science Museum.”
