Classic car owners could face 'challenges' over the next decade as 'things will change'

David Bond, spokesperson at classic car insurance specialist Footman James predicts classic cars could be used in “different ways” after the 2030 petrol and diesel car ban. Meanwhile, the next year could be difficult for classic car owners with the launch of E10 fuel in September which is not compliant with historic vehicles.

Many owners are also contemplating selling their models after new Clean Air Zones will charge owners to drive polluting cars inside city centres.

Mr Bond warned ownership of classic models was likely to slightly alter but said historic models would not be going anywhere.

He predicts the industry will be “adaptable” to situations to overcome difficulties over the next decade.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “There’s always those challenges ahead. We need to be adaptable.

“There’s a lot of concern but what we need to do is take those concerns seriously but learn to adapt.

“We may use these vehicles in different ways, maybe more trackdays, more off-roading.

“We may use those vehicles differently in the future but it’s in the DNA.

“There is a passion there and its hearts and minds, that doesn’t go away. People will always want to drive vehicles.

The Historic and Classic Vehicle Alliance (HCVA) was formed last month to warn how historic vehicles were under “threat”.

They warned classic cars risk being banished from the roads by legislation changes.

The HCVA said this was down to “misunderstandings” about classic cars impact on the environment.

Confusion around Brexit rules and other issues mean it was time for “urgent action” to protect car owners.
