‘You’ve got to have thick skin:’ Chloe Ferry says she had ‘bad depression for two years’ due to pressures of being in the public eye as she admits she now wants to ‘steer away from TV work’
Chloe Ferry has revealed that she had ‘bad depression’ for over two years due to the pressures of living life in the public eye.
The reality star, 26, discussed how ‘constantly getting judged’ and receiving hate from trolls online left her ‘wanting to just curl up in a ball’.
Speaking ahead of the Geordie Shore Ten Years on The Toon show, the star opened up about the toll being famous had on her mental health and wanting to now move away from TV work.
Honest: Chloe Ferry has revealed that she had ‘bad depression’ for over two years due to the pressures of living life in the public eye
She said: ‘I had really bad depression about two and a half years ago which no one knew about. I was in Las Vegas and I didn’t even want to leave my room.
‘I don’t think people realise how hard it is and how much pressure it is in the public eye, constantly getting judged and all the thousands of comments.
‘What baffles me is how it’s still going on. You’ve got to have such thick skin to be in this industry.’
She added: ‘Why my depression started was because I got so much hate online. You have people calling you ‘fat, ugly and a disgrace’ so I hate it when I think everyone is looking at me and judging me.

‘That’s where mine started from – I just wanted to curl up in a ball.’
Chloe also said that she is considering moving away from TV after so many years in the spotlight to focus on other business ventures.
She said: ‘I think I’ll only do one more series of Geordie Shore, I want to start steering away from TV to be honest. I want to start expanding my salons and stuff like that.
‘I’m so different now from what I was when I was first on TV. I want to focus on the business side of things for now. Eventually I want to go and live on a farm on an island somewhere.

‘You have to be so thick-skinned to be on reality. Back when I first started on the show I used to think I wasn’t good enough. I was too scared to do stuff because I thought ‘yeah I am a failure’ but now I think if I want something then I’ll go and get it.’
Chloe was speaking alongside her co-star Nathan Henry, 28, ahead of the new show who also admitted he had struggled with his mental health being in the limelight.
Nathan added: ‘Before TV I would go on a night out with my friends and get drunk and in the taxi ride I would never ever get anxiety but since going on TV I don’t remember the last time going on a night out where I’ve not had anxiety.

‘I didn’t even know what anxiety was but it’s been one of those things where I’ve had to learn to deal with it.’
Chloe joined the raucous MTV show alongside Nathan in 2015 and briefly quit the series in 2019 after splitting from on/off boyfriend and cast member Sam Gowland.
It comes after Chloe revealed last week that she’s dating someone new after months of rumours around her close friendship with Wayne Lineker.
Appearing to reference her new romance in a recent photo caption, Chloe wrote: ‘He call me big purr.’

Chloe told Heat Magazine: ‘Me and Wayne are just very, very good friends. But I am seeing someone at the minute.’
She added: ‘My whole family do love Wayne… My 80-year-old auntie was trying to get a date with him!’
While Chloe was tight-lipped on details surrounding the identity of her new beau, she did reveal he’s already had her family’s seal of approval.
