The monarch could be set to visit the antipoden nation in 2024 to mark the Bicentenary of the former British colony. His Majesty could be heading for Sydney to mark the historical occasion as well as attending the 2024 Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference which is also taking place in the city.

It is believed that Prince William and Princess Kate will also join the King down under for the festivities.

The firm has been in discussion with the New South Wales Parliament for months in order to arrange the landmark visit.

Matthew Mason-Cox, the president of the NSW Legislative Council, was granted an audience at Balmoral with the then Prince of Wales only days before the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph Mr Mason-Cox said that the King had a “passion” for Australia.

He added that it is possible that the Prince and Princess of Wales might visit Australia before the Bicentenary.

He said: “He was delightful and has such a passion and a high regard for Australia.

“After all he went to school here, surfed Bondi Beach, he’s right at home.

“With the recent passing of the Queen, itineraries for the Royals are being redrawn.
