Phoenix police are investigating a burglary at the campaign headquarters of Arizona’s Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs. The Governor hopeful’s office was broken into on Monday night and items were stolen. Officers responded to a 999 call at the headquarters, located north of downtown Phoenix.
But officers determined the burglary had occurred “sometime during the night”.
No suspects have yet been identified but police confirmed in a statement it was an “active investigation” and detectives will be “checking all security cameras in attempts to identify and locate the subject involved”.
Ms Hobbs has served as Arizona’s Secretary of State since 2019.
Nicole DeMont, who manages Hobbs’ gubernatorial campaign, told CNN in a statement: “Secretary Hobbs and her staff have faced hundreds of death threats and threats of violence over the course of this campaign.
“Throughout this race, we have been clear that the safety of our staff and of the Secretary is our number one priority.”

The statement added: “Katie is running for Governor to ensure the safety and security of every Arizona family.
“She will win the race.”
The break-in at Ms Hobbs’ office comes just months after the FBI arrested a man for allegedly sending a bomb threat to her office.
James W Clark, 38, of Falmouth, Massachusetts, allegedly sent the threat through the Secretary of State’s election department in February 2021.
The sender said they wanted to explode a bomb in Hobbs’ “personal space” if she did not resign.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted and five years on two separate charges, according to the US Department of Justice.
Speaking about death threats the group has received, Ms Hobbs said: “It’s unconscionable and undermines our democracy. This harassment won’t be tolerated and can’t be normalised.”
