Jamie Spears, 69, has been removed as Britney Spear’s conservator more than a decade after a court-order placed the singer’s financial affairs into his control. The Los Angeles Judge, Brenda Penny, also ruled Mr Spears will no longer serve as conservator to his daughter’s estate.

Judge Penny said removing Britney’s father from the legal arrangement was in the singer’s “best interests” following an otherwise “untenable” situation.

She added that it also reflected a “toxic environment”.

It has been reported that an accountant called John Zabel will temporarily take on the role, enabling him to take control of the singer’s financial decisions.

Filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, 33, who directed the Netflix documentary Britney vs Spears, reacted to the hearing on Twitter.

She even appeared to doubt some of the claims made during Ms Spears’ emotional testimony in the summer.

“She wasn’t cross examined,” Ms Thoreen said.

“Nobody knows the veracity of those statements.”

While the singer appeared in court during June, she was not present at the hearing on Wednesday.
