On Thursday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the Government was “going to try to allow people to travel”. He added: “But we’ve got to be cautious and we’ve got to continue to put countries on the red list, on the amber list, when that is necessary.”
Mr Johnson warned the Government will “have no hesitation in moving countries from the green list to the amber list to the red list, if we have to do so”.
On Thursday it was revealed that Portugal would be moving from the green list to the amber list from June 8 meaning tourists will have to quarantine on return.
No further countries were moved from the amber to green status in the announcement.
British tourists in Lisbon have called the Government’s decision “unfair”.

Albufeira-based bar owner Gary Search, 54, told the Daily Mail he was “absolutely devastated” by the Government’s decision.
He said: “One of the bars is 98 percent British tourists and in the other about 50 per cent of our customers are Brits who are also mostly holidaymakers. We’re absolutely devastated by today’s decision.
“We’d literally just got off the ground, we’d been scrabbling around all week getting new staff because obviously we couldn’t employ the staff till we got busy.
“There’s no staff here because of Brexit and Covid so it’s been extremely difficult. We’d just put them all on contracts and then this happens. It’s messed things right up to be honest.”
