The investment will help pave the way for Britain to hit net zero emissions by the year 2050 with a focus on carbon capture and storage, hydrogen energy, as well as offshore wind power.
The Government also believes the money will help create some 30,000 jobs across the country.
The investment package consists of 18 deals, including a lucrative contract to invest in wind farms through ScottishPower’s East Anglia hub.
The project, which was first announced in 2019, could power more than 2.7 million homes once operational.
