Britons are set to bask in scorching temperatures for Bank Holiday Monday as a heatwave grips the country. The latest BBC weather forecast shows temperatures surging between Sunday and Monday as the country “drags in even warmer air”. This will see the country experience the hottest day of the year so far on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures of 25C forecast.
BBC meteorologist Louise Lear told BBC Breakfast viewers that “a beautiful couple of days await the country”.
She explained: “It will be warm and sunny for nearly all of us. Even more sunshine around for us today in comparison to yesterday and that high pressure is with us.
“There is some low cloud drifting in from the North Sea and fog around this morning, that may linger in some eastern areas.
“But the emphasis is on the dry, sunny and quite warm conditions.”

Ms Lear continued: “Northern Ireland had their warmest day of the year so far yesterday. It is a similar story there today.
“We could see temperatures in the south-east reach 22C to 23C through this afternoon, which is just above the average for the time of year.
“It will continue to stay dry this evening – perfect for a barbecue I suspect.
“We keep temperatures around double digits for many overnight so that means a relatively mild start for Bank Holiday Monday.
The BBC meteorologist added: “Tuesday may well be the peak of the heat, with some weather fronts threatening from the south-east on Wednesday.
“A lot of uncertainty when those fronts will arrive and how much rain they will bring. Things will dip down to high-teens after that rain clears.”
The current high for 2021 was 24.5C recorded on 31 March in Kew Gardens.
Millions are expected to head off on day trips and weekends away, despite concern surrounding the spread of the Indian variant.
Some 10.8 million leisure car journeys are expected to take place across this Bank Holiday weekend, according to research from the RAC.
