It follows calls by Labour for a Covid inquiry in light of Dominic Cumming’s claims the Prime Minister downplayed the seriousness of the virus. Speaking on BBC Question Time, one audience member said: “I do think there have been unavoidable deaths and the Government is responsible.
“I mean when they say that back before the first lockdown there was no evidence and no clues as to how to deal with it – it had already ravaged some of Europe.
“Back in Spain before our first lockdown, people were already wearing masks.
“They were having the same problems in care homes and with PPE so I don’t swallow the excuse that they couldn’t see it coming.”
On Thursday, Dominic Cummings sat before a joint committee to give testimony into the Government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among many controversial remarks made during the hearing, Mr Cummings alleged Boris Johnson played down the pandemic in its early stages, calling it “the new swine flu”.
He also claimed the Prime Minister said he wanted to be injected with the virus on television to calm the nation.
Mr Cummings took shots at Health Secretary Matt Hancock, claiming he should have been fired on 15 to 20 different occasions.
He added that Mr Hancock lied to the Cabinet and the public on “multiple occasions”.
