The corporation was widely criticised for missing big medal moments for Team GB during the Olympics. Due to a £920million deal between Olympic bosses and American TV giant Discovery, the BBC was only allowed to broadcast two sports live at any one time. In contrast, the 2012 and 2016 Olympics features live streams across the BBC.
But as the Olympics came to an end this afternoon, many took to Twitter to praise the BBC’s tear-jerking coverage of the closing ceremony.
The BBC’s montage shows all the Team GB Olympic medallists talking about their wins and reuniting with family and friends as the heroes return home.
One person tweeted: “That BBC final montage of the Olympics had no right to make me cry this hard #ClosingCeremony.”
Someone else added: “Absolutely superb closing montage from BBC at the end of the Olympics closing ceremony.
“Incredibly moving.”
Another commented: “That Olympic montage at the end of the closing ceremonies was emotional.
“Congratulations to every athlete that competed.
“It was a memorable games for so many reasons.
“Loved that BBC coverage.”
A fourth person tweeted: “That BBC closing montage was absolutely stunning.”
Someone else said the BBC’s montage was “quite something” followed by a crying emoji.
