Arsenal and Chelsea are amongst a host of clubs to have disrupted France’s plans for the Olympics when their national football is concerned. Les Blues have been forced to issue a newly updated squad after a host of players that were selected were not granted permission to participate.

Those include the Gunners, who did not want William Saliba heading out to Japan later this month.

Chelsea too, blocked the departure of their defender Malang Sarr, who spent last season on loan at Porto.

Games are scheduled to take place between July 21 and August 7, meaning those involved will miss a significant percentage of pre-season.

Not only that but players must also comply with quarantine and travel restrictions although they will remain in bubbles at the tournament.

France’s new squad has also seen Amine Gouiri (Nice), Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes) and Maxence Caqueret (Lyon) replaced.

The Frenchman wants clarity on whether he is part of Mikel Arteta’s plans or not after spending time on loan at St-Etienne and Nice.

Newcastle and Rennes are amongst those interested in another loan deal.

His future could be dependent on Arsenal’s interest in Ben White as they look to bring in another centre-back.

Meanwhile, Sarr seems unlikely to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s immediate plans at Chelsea.

He was deemed an impressive coup after the Blues snapped him up on a free transfer from Nice last summer.

However, Sarr’s stock has deteriorated after a mixed loan spell with Porto.

The 22-year-old featured just eight times in the Primeira Liga as he prepares to take part in pre-season.

More talks are expected to be held over the future of both players in the coming weeks…
