    Annie star Lois de Banzie dead aged 90: Actress’ family confirm the sad news as they pay tribute: ‘Her wit and humour will be much missed’

    Lois de Banzie has died, aged 90. 

    The death of the Scottish actress, who was best known for playing former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1982 film version of Annie, was announced this week in the San Francisco Chronicle.

    Lois’ family confirmed that she passed away on April 3 in Greenbrae, California, Los Angeles, adding that ‘her wit and humour will be much missed’. No specific cause of death has been given.

    ‘Lois was proud to have made a career as an actress on stage, screen, and television.

    ‘Her most notable stage performance was in Mornings at Seven, for which she received a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award nomination.

    ‘Among her diverse screen roles were performances in Annie, Dunston Checks In, and Sudden Impact. Her wit and humor will be much missed.’ 

    A star of both stage and screen, the Glasgow-born actress starred in films Addams Family Values, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, Tootsie and Sudden Impact.

    Lois – whose aunt was noted British actress Brenda De Banzie – also starred in Sister Act as Immaculata alongside Whoopi Goldberg, and had roles in 80s TV classics Who’s the Boss? and Cheers. 

    Alongside her movie and television appearances, Lois was known for her stage roles, with her most notable performance as Myrtle Brown in Mornings at Seven. 

    Her other Broadway credits include The Octette Bridge Club, Da, and The Last of Mrs. Lincoln.
