Cleaning star, Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe, rose to fame on social media, with more than 4.1 million followers to date. The cleaning sensation’s clever hacks showcased on her Instagram page have helped thousands of people discover quick and easy methods to spruce up their homes.
Inspired by her ingenious tips, fans have established their own social media groups dedicated to sharing helpful cleaning advice.
One online user keen to find an effective way to clean a washing machine, attracted more than 130 responses with a range of tips.
Responding to the post, one person said: “I use Dettol five in one washing machine cleaner liquid – works great.”
A second advised: “Half a bag of soda crystals in the drum and white vinegar in the softener drawer and then put on the hottest wash.”

One online user suggested putting a dishwasher tablet in the washing machine drum, before spraying the seam with Elbow Grease.
“Detol mould and Mildew Remover,” another person posted, adding: “Clean the inside seals by hand and then use white vinegar and Detol disinfectant.”
Offering another effective technique, one group member suggested: “Household soda in the drum and white vinegar in fabric softener drawer each wash – never needs cleaning.”
While another posted: “A small bowl of white vinegar and one of bicarb. On the top shelf. It cleans and deodorises. Run empty in hottest setting.”
“An engineer recommended using biological washing powder and a boil wash with an empty drum once a month,” said one online user, adding: “Works a treat”
Explaining another technique, one group member said: “I add soda crystals to each wash to help clean the machine.
“I use dishwasher cleaner instead of washing machine cleaner and clean the filter as well – once a month.
While another person suggested putting bleach on a makeup pad before leaving it for a few hours in the grubby areas of the washing machine. The user advised wiping over the surface then run an empty machine before using the appliance again.
