Production on the new season of ABC comedy show Mad as Hell has been forced to shut down due to Melbourne’s growing coronavirus outbreak.
Staffers were ready to film an episode of the program, hosted by comedian Shaun Micallef, in front of a live audience before the Covid situation escalated on Thursday.
The ABC told TV Blackbox that all studio audience members were contacted before the scheduled taping and told to stay at home and follow restrictions.

The Victorian government’s restrictions will take effect from 11:59pm on Thursday.
Last year, Mad as Hell went ahead with filming but without a studio audience.
As Melbourne’s new lockdown is set to kick in, local TV productions have been thrown into chaos as restrictions take hold for the next week.

From midnight tonight, people will only be able to leave home to shop for food and essential items, provide or receive care, exercise and to work or study if they can’t from home, and getting vaccinated.
Panic buyers began to strip Melbourne’s supermarket shelves of toilet paper – with shoppers posting pictures of empty shelves just minutes after lockdown was announced.
There are now 80 exposure sites across Melbourne and regional Victoria, including the MCG and Marvel Stadium.
