5SOS frontman Luke Hemmings goes solo: Lead vocalist announces his new album and releases debut single while thanking his bandmates for ‘allowing him to pursue the project’
5 Seconds of Summer rocker Luke Hemmings has gone solo.
The 24-year-old, who is the lead vocalist of the Aussie band, made the shock announcement on Wednesday to his more than 6.9million Instagram followers.
Luke announced his new single called Starting Line, which is from the upcoming album, When Facing The Things We Turn Away From.

In his post, Luke said that being in lockdown made him produce the album and ‘decipher the last 10 years of my life.’
He also thanked his 5SOS bandmates Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin ‘for their support and allowing him to pursue this project.’
‘I couldn’t be prouder to introduce you to ‘When Facing the Things We Turn Away From’; a project that grew out of a year of enforced stillness,’ Luke’s post began.

‘I’m so grateful for the journey this album has taken me on and I’m so thankful to have had this creative outlet during my time at home. Lyrically and sonically, this album has allowed me to decipher the last 10 years of my life and help me make sense of the person I am today and how I got here.’
Luke said his new album will drop on August 13 and went on to thank his 5SOS ‘brothers.’
‘Thank you to my brothers in 5SOS for your support and allowing me to pursue this project. Endless love to you,’ he wrote.
Underneath the post, fans couldn’t help but comment how ‘proud’ they are of Luke.

‘So proud,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘It’s a great song, I love it! I couldn’t be more proud of you.’
5SOS first formed in 2011 and the boys all hail from Sydney.
They have produced hits including Want You Back, Lie to Me and Youngblood.
Last month meanwhile, Luke shared some other personal news, announcing his engagement to long-term girlfriend Sierra Deaton.

The singer and guitarist, 24, shared the news on Instagram, posting a gallery of photos from the moment he proposed.
The western Sydney native actually popped the question months ago, but waited until last month to share the news publicly with fans.
Luke captioned the post: ‘With shaking hands but a full heart I proposed to my best friend earlier this year. I love you Thao and I can’t imagine my life without you.’
Sierra, who rose to fame after winning the American version of The X Factor in 2013, also shared the same gallery of engagement photos with her fans.
The lovebirds have been dating since February 2018.
