Martyn Smith was sentenced today after pleading guilty to two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to the two emergency service workers after they were called out to his home in Wolverhampton last summer. Pictures of the bloody attack were captured on police bodycam footage and shows the severe injuries inflicted on the two paramedics, Mick Hipgrave and Deena Evans. The video also captured the moment Mr Smith lunged towards the ambulance workers bearing two kitchen knives.
The whole incident lasted about 12 seconds, from the moment the two ambulance workers entered the property, to Mr Smith being tasered.
Mr Smith attacked the two paramedics with two large kitchen knives as they carried out a welfare check in Stephens Close, Wolverhampton on July 6, 2020.
Ms Evans suffered a punctured lung in the attack and subsequently spent three days in hospital following surgery.
Her collegue, Mr Hipgrave, was stabbed in the back and was discharged from hospital the same day.
The two paramedics spent months off work for both their physical and mental recovery.
