On tonight’s episode of Your Home Made Perfect, couple Lei Ying and David wanted to transform their impractical 1950s semi-detached property in Belfast into a spacious home that’s more suitable for their children. The couple said they felt their home didn’t link together, making it feel like a hallway with several “cul-de-sacs” coming off it. The homeowners were looking for more space and a practical garden with fewer hard spaces and steps.
The homeowners also decided to keep the dining room and snug open plan.
Outside, David also decided to make Laura’s decking idea into a separate platform.
One of Laura’s original moves was dividing the homeowners’ old playroom and long lounge into distinct but interconnecting spaces.
Architect Laura said this is a solution to a “common problem” in terraced and semi-detached homes.
Angela said: “In Laura’s plan, it’s the snug, but it doesn’t have to be.”
“They can be work space or something you need, or a utility space,” Laura added.
“You can install a projector for movies or light patterns – the possibilities for a dark space are endless,” said Angela.
