She’s no shrinking violet! Whoopi Goldberg wears bold purple ruffle Valentino gown with SIX layers on Met Gala red carpet

It’s been more than two years since some of the world’s most high-profile people last graced the red carpet for the Met Gala in New York City.

Actress and television personality Whoopi Goldberg was among the stars who wasn’t going to pass on the opportunity to attend the famed event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday.

And on this festive night The View co-host stepped out in a purple ruffled gown by Valentino, that had six layers that helped build its bell-shaped design.

The full-length gown came complete with short sleeves that fell to just above her elbows.

For color contrast, there was green fabric along the middle of the piece and around Goldberg’s neck.

She also wore teal-colored gloves up that came up to the end of garment’s sleeves.

Goldberg struck pose after pose, in front of the sea of photographers, by herself, but at one point she teamed up with actress Carey Mulligan, 36, who looked pretty in a pink Valentino gown and cape.

The two ladies then snuggled up next to Valentino designer Pier Paolo Piccioli for the cameras.

Piccioli, 54, went with a more traditional black tuxedo and bow tie for the event.

The Met Gala, which is formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

Considered the fashion world’s equivalent of the Oscars, the event marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition

This go-around the Met Gala theme was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.’

Goldberg is among just 16 entertainers to have won an EGOT: Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Awards, and a Tony Award.
