The US, France and the UK are set to raise the issue of Iranian weapons transfers to Russia at a closed door UN meeting of the Security Council. Iran is reportedly planning to send arms to Moscow for use by the Putin’s forces in their war against Ukraine, boosting Russia’s depleted supplies.

According to US officials, the Iranian Government has secretly agreed to send not only attack drones but also the first surface-to-surface missiles produced by the country.

Putin’s supply of such weapons has been dwindling, particularly the precision-guided munitions used in recent strikes against Ukraine.

Pictures have been published allegedly showing Iranian drones striking Ukrainian targets, although the country has so far denied sending any arms to Russia.

However, officials from the Pentagon have confirmed that Iranian weapons have been used in airstrikes and that Kyiv had successfully shot some down.

Last month Iranian officials were reportedly dispatched to Moscow to finalise terms for additional arms shipments, according to the Washington Post.

A recent intelligence assessment claimed that Tehran is preparing to send the first shipment of Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar missiles, two well-known Iranian short-range ballistic missiles capable of striking targets at distances of 300 and 700 kilometres.

If the deal goes through it would be the first time Moscow had received such a missile delivery since their February invasion.

He said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers reports about delivering drones to Russia for use in the Ukraine war ‘baseless’ and does not confirm them.”

Mr Kan’ani emphasised his country’s neutral position and said the two sides need to “solve their problems through political means free from violence”.

Yet according to assessments from Ukraine, the majority of Russian missiles deployed in the south of the country were produced by Iran.
