Vladimir Putin suffered another hammer blow to his military campaign in Ukraine after Russian troops started to withdraw from western Kherson province.
Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command reported that Russian forces were “quite actively” transferring ammunition and military equipment, along with some units, from the west to the east bank of the Dnipro River.
Kyiv’a commanders also said that the Russians had deployed 2,000 mobilised men to cover the withdrawal.
Occupation officials were scrambling to evacuate Russian specialists and Ukrainian collaborators from the area.
Serhiy Khlan, a deputy head of Kherson’s regional council in exile, said the Russians were taking property and documents out of the city.
He said: “The occupiers from the city of Kherson are taking away their ‘achievement’ outpost – property, documents from the bank and the passport office.”
