Britain is currently caught in between two weather systems and an area of low pressure is set to take over and engulf the country by the weekend. High pressure will remain over the UK for the next 48 hours, with temperatures peaking at 25C, but the pleasant conditions are set to come to an abrupt end on Saturday.
A new system will begin move in from the Atlantic on Friday night, with heavy showers, hail storms, thunder and some localised flooding forecast over the weekend.
The latest weather maps produced by Wxcharts shows a storm brewing in the Atlantic.
Peak wind gust maps show strong gales hurtling towards the UK and Ireland by the end of the week.
Swirling gusts can be seen picking up momentum into Sunday evening, with wind speed charts turning a shade of red.
The stormy weather system can be seen heading towards southwestern parts of England, with speeds of up to 50mph expected, according to the maps.
Netweather.TV’s Paul Michaelwaite said: “For the time being, it’s still a case of as you were in terms of the UK’s weather.
“We still have a shallow low pressure to the south of the country, meaning an ongoing threat of heavy showers or thunderstorms here.
“But further north, with high pressure not too far away, it’s quieter with the best of the sunshine and warmth in western parts.
“A change will be taking place through this week, though, as everything starts to shift further east, which looks set to bring Atlantic weather back into play again by the weekend.”
Nick Finnis says he expected the current area of low pressure to “pull away” from Thursday paving the way for temperatures peak at 22C.
The mercury is expected to rise into the mid-20s into Friday, but there is expected to be widespread cloud cover with the chance of scattered showers for much of England and Wales.

Mr Finnis said: “High pressure doesn’t last for long before low pressure nudges in from the Atlantic on Saturday, so the weather turning increasingly unsettled from the southwest over the weekend.
“Troughs and a cold front moving northeast across England, Wales and Ireland on Saturday ahead of low pressure west of Ireland will introduce showers to many parts through the day, some of which will be heavy with hail and thunder.
“Western Scotland perhaps staying mostly dry and sunny, maybe some showery rain for eastern Scotland moving off the North Sea.
“Heavy thundery downpours perhaps widespread across Britain on Sunday, as low pressure extends east across England and Wales, downpours maybe slow-moving – bringing a risk of localised flooding.”
