The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for a huge proportion of the country with the South East, Midlands, and the North all expecting to be hit with heavy rain and thunderstorms. The warning is in place from 6am on Saturday until midnight on the same day and forecasters said there is also a chance of flooding and potential power cuts.
They said: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail.
“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
“There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.
“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
BBC Weather also said there will be the “odd rumble of thunder” this afternoon, which was expected to start around 4pm on Friday.
Tweeting their weekend forecast, they said: “SAT: Cloudy with heavy & thundery showers across the UK.
“N Scot may remain dry for a time, with heavy showers arriving later

“These showers could produce a few lightning strikes.”
It also appears the wet and stormy weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
Heavy showers are expected in central areas and there is likely to be more thundery showers throughout the day.
On Sunday, all regions across England will see more showers which could be heavy and thundery again.
The wet weather is also likely to continue into Monday especially in the northern half of the country.
While the south will have dry conditions to begin with, heavy spells of rain are expected throughout the afternoon, according to the Weather Outlook.
According to the latest WXCharts, the wet weather is expected to continue for much of next week.
