UK floods LIVE: Tower Bridge underwater as heavy downpours hit UK – power cut fears

With yellow weather warnings in place across much of England and Wales today, the Met Office has warned there may be some cases of localised flooding.

Flooding can happen very quickly and taking precautions to protect your home from it can save time, money and livelihoods.

The first step to protect yourself from flooding is to create a flood plan.

It is sensible to compile a list of phone numbers which you are likely to need in the event of a flood, including your local council, utility providers and insurance company.

Make sure you know how to shut off your electricity or gas supply as you will have to do this quickly in the event of a flood.

Understand what you would need to move if water started to seep into your property, think about pets, furniture, valuables and your car.

Finally, consider whether you could ask someone for help or offer it to your friends or neighbours.
