Tyson Fury has disclosed that he is happy for negotiations for the all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua to continue after previously declaring that it was ‘off’. Fury admits Frank Warren has convinced him to extend his self-imposed deadline for a couple more days.
In a video posted to Twitter, Fury said: “Right, Anthony Joshua, where do we start? So the deadline was Monday, Frank Warren asked me and convinced me to let it carry on for another couple of days.
“Today is Thursday, even though I knew you wouldn’t sign this contract I allowed Frank to continue doing meetings with your team, broadcasters and all that; now we have BT Sport, Dazn and ESPN all on the same page. They are happy with everything. They are all ready to rock and roll.
“You guys asked for a lot of stuff. You wanted to be co-promoters when you’re a voluntary challenger, guess what? I said give it to them. Let them be co-promoters. You wanted full transparency even though you’re not an equal shareholder in this party. Do you know I said? Give them full transparency. I have got nothing to hide. I’m not trying to rob anybody.
“I’m chucking you a major bone but I know I can punch your face in. There is nothing more to do, everyone is happy. Get your team onto mine, they will be available all day, like they have been for the last two weeks. Get this contract signed today, you big p***y.
“Give the British fans what they want. There is no more running, you have to fight me. You cannot escape, the Fury is coming, b***h.”
Fury’s latest update comes after he had declared that he was ‘moving on’ to another opponent – believed to be Mahmoud Charr – after setting Joshua a Monday deadline to complete the final paperwork for their fight. Eddie Hearn and Joshua received the bout agreement on September 16 but are yet to sign it.
According to Hearn, there are a number of undisclosed points in the contract that need to be ironed out before the deal can be closed. It is understood that Hearn has been negotiating these terms with Warren’s son George and that they will sign on the dotted line once talks have been concluded.
Providing all goes well, Fury and Joshua will square off on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Fury is set to receive a 60/40 split of the overall purse with a rematch clause signed into the contract at 50/50.
On Monday, both promotional companies’ rival broadcasters met in a crucial meeting to discuss the television situation for the blockbuster showdown. Fury disclosed that BT Sport, ESPN, and DAZN have all agreed to terms and are happy to support the event. The broadcaster deal had previously been described as the single biggest hurdle in making the fight happen.
