Strictly Come Dancing first began in May 2004 and has seen many celebrity faces take to the dancefloor for a chance to win the iconic Glitterball trophy. First presenting the show was legendary Bruce Forsyth, alongside current hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. However, as the recent series goes into week three, some viewers have called for the series to be axed after 20 years with many branding the show “boring”.
Movie week kicked off with a bang and saw the contestants take their favourite films and transform into the characters.
However, as many were applauding the dancing, the band and some of the incredible costumes, others expressed they were “bored” of the show and called for it to come to an end.
Taking to Twitter, Iain Philpott exclaimed: “Strictly has been part of our lives for 20 odd years. Sorry to say but it’s losing me. Don’t know why.
“Not sure if it’s just tired. Something needs to happen? #StrictlyComeDancing.”

Replying to Iain’s comment, Martin Gambrell added: “Ditto. Tired, stereotyped, repetitive and overhyped. Whatever magic it had has long since passed. #StrictlyComeDancing.”
@RealTweetiePie said: “Just can’t get into this series of #Strictly just seems really boring. #StrictlyComeDancing.”
Ryan Smith expressed: “I’m putting this out there but this year #StrictlyComeDancing is just Meh & boring no one I’m rooting 4. Prefer #DancingWiththeStars.”
@Rhaenyras_Weave fumed: “Seriously finding #StrictlyComeDancing incredibly boring this year and the scoring is ridiculous. #DWTS is far better.”
Coronation Street star Will Mellor and partner Nancy Xu have been soaring through the competition as he continues to grab the high scores and sit near the top of the leaderboard.
Tonight, he performed the American Smooth to Cry To Me from Dirty Dancing and revealed that he wanted to make his mum proud who was sitting in the audience.
Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke awarded their dance a score of eight, with Motsi Mabuse going one higher with a staggering nine.
According to bookmakers Coral’s, Coronation Street actor Will Mellor is the favourite to win the BBC competition with odds of 2/1.
Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton is second in the running with odds at 7/2, while Fleur East, Hamza Yasin, Tyler West, and Molly Rainford all closely follow behind at 8/2.
Coral’s John Hill said: “Will Mellor clearly looks the one they all have to beat on Strictly this year, despite it being early in the series.
“Over 70 per cent of all the bets we have taken in our outright market have been for the actor.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday from 6:30pm on BBC One, with the results show airing on Sunday.
