‘Rude and unprofessional!’: The One Show is slammed by viewers for cutting off Shakira mid-sentence after only having 45 seconds airtime

The One Show has been slammed by viewers after Shakira only had 45 seconds airtime at the end of the show on Friday evening.

The singer, 44, was on the BBC programme to promote her new single Don’t Wait Up when she faced numerous technical difficulties.

With only a minute left of the show, presenter Alex Jones asked the Columbian songstress how it felt to make a return to music after four years and as she was getting into her response, she was abruptly cut off to signal the end of the show.

Alex and her co-presenter Ronan Keating struggled throughout the show with technical difficulties of the video link between Shakira and the studio.

So The Welsh presenter was desperate when she tried to make the interview work when she asked: ‘Shakira can you hear us now? There’s only a minute left of the show…but what does it feel like to be back?’

Shakira told the show:  ‘I’m extremely excited, I feel very inspired.

Awkward: Alex then went on to hurriedly interrupt the Hips Don't Lie hitmaker mid-sentence as it was time for the show to end, with viewers calling this 'disrespectful' and 'rude'

‘I feel like a horse that is running wild after so long being in a box at a stable.’

She continued: ‘Now that it’s actually safer to be in a recording studio with all the collaborators, everything that I’ve got is pouring out.’

Complaint: One viewer took to Twitter to share that they thought  a statement apology was owed after the mistake

Complaint: One viewer took to Twitter to share that they thought  a statement apology was owed after the mistake

‘If you knew you had mere seconds left, you should have cut your losses instead of effectively blanking an international music star. I think a statement of apology is owed.’

This comes in a string of blunders made by the show in recent months.

Earlier in July, Alex Jones made a mistake while Ed Sheeran was on the show where he had to correct the presenter when she claimed he had eight million people attend his tour, when in fact it was nine million.

After being told she had got it wrong, Alex corrected herself and said: ‘Nine, nine, ok. Most songs in the last album reached the top 20?

Ed replied: ‘Yeah well that was kind of like a mistake of like the way they ordered the chart, anyway I’ll let you carry on, thank you.’

Another blunder: Ed Sheeran recently sat down with Alex Jones and Ronan Keating where he corrected the Welsh presenter when she claimed he had 8million people attend his tour, when in fact it was 9million
